What happens to fashion once it is photographed?
Photography's interaction with fashion is complex. Both artificial and documentary; it communicates and preserves the tastes, identities, desires, and attitudes of a particular time. Once translated into image, fashion becomes more than clothing — it becomes an archive of personal and collective histories, a reflection of social values.
Part 2 of our In Conversation series brings together a multigenerational panel of women working across art direction, fashion writing, curation, research, and design to discuss fashion photography and its role in shaping visual culture.
Bringing together voices from backgrounds, the conversation explores how fashion imagery, and the interaction with the visual archive it has constructed, preserves, transforms, and reimagines narratives across generations and cultural contexts.
From questions of authorship and representation to memory, identity, and power, the panel considers what is gained, lost, or rewritten when fashion is translated into image.
