Visit the Inside Out Foundation in Forest Town, Johannesburg, and experience two distinct but connected cultural spaces: the Inside Out Centre for the Arts and the Roger Ballen Centre for Photography.

Inside Out Centre for the Arts


A multidisciplinary centre for exhibitions, education and cultural programming, with a focus on art that opens up conversation, exchange and access.

Roger Ballen Centre for Photography


A dedicated home for photography, presenting exhibitions and programming that engage with the medium in all its complexity, from contemporary practice to broader visual culture.

Together, the two centres offer visitors the opportunity to experience a broader view of art and photography in one visit.

Getting here

The Foundation is located in Forest Town, Johannesburg, within easy reach of Rosebank, Parktown and Sandton.

Visitors travelling by car can use nearby parking, subject to availability. Uber and other ride-hailing services can also drop off directly at the venue.

How long to allow for your visit

To enjoy both centres properly, we recommend allowing 60 to 90 minutes for your visit.

If you are visiting during a public programme, walkabout or special event, you may wish to allow a little longer.

Accessibility 

Both Centres are wheelchair friendly. 

Photography


Photography for personal use is permitted in selected areas unless otherwise indicated. Flash photography, tripods and commercial shoots may be restricted.

Please check with staff on arrival if you are unsure.

SCHOOL AND GROUP VISITS

The Foundation welcomes school groups, student visits and organised group bookings.

These visits can be tailored around current exhibitions and may include guided engagement where available. They are ideal for schools, universities, educational programmes and cultural groups looking to deepen their experience of the work on view.
