Design Week Showcase: Sefara Ceramics

The Roger Ballen Centre for Photography is pleased to present The Vessel and the Gaze, the inaugural exhibition of SEFARA, as part of the 2026 Design Week programme.

Founded by Johannesburg-based multidisciplinary artist Kgaugelo Rakgwale, SEFARA is an independent ceramic practice rooted in form, memory and material exploration.

Unfolding across seven sculptural ceramic works, The Vessel and the Gaze explores how identity is seen, interpreted, reflected and transformed. Each work presents a distinct encounter between the self and external perception, considering the relationship between visibility, memory and self-recognition.
