Alternative Arts Fest (03.25)
Alternative Arts Fest is a one-day programme that brings together tattooing, live music, and alternative creative practices within a shared exhibition-style environment. The festival foregrounds tattooing as a performative and visual art form, situating it alongside experimental sound and participatory encounters.
The programme includes live tattooing by international artists Michele Servadio and Ruco, whose practices operate at the intersection of tattooing, performance, and fine art. Visitors are able to observe the tattoo process as it unfolds in real time, emphasising process, collaboration, and embodied mark-making. A limited series of Roger Ballen–inspired flash tattoos by Sencha Watcher forms part of the programme, exploring themes of form, distortion, and symbolism.
The festival’s sound programme features a live performance by Behr (Emile Hoogenhout), whose practice draws on modular synthesis, field recordings, and improvisation to create immersive sound environments. These sonic elements function as an atmospheric layer within the space, responding to the visual and performative activity of the day.
Alternative Arts Fest is conceived as a site-responsive programme that encourages close observation of artistic process and alternative forms of expression, offering visitors an opportunity to engage with contemporary creative practices beyond conventional gallery formats.
